PaperChain: Sketch Zintiel!

Sun Nov 16, 2014, 8:28 AM
I don't know if you're all familiar with the PaperChainProject group, but a new sketch round has just started and the topic is.... Zintiel!

What this means is that you're all invited to submit sketches of my character Zintiel. I'm assuming most people reading this are familiar with her - if not, the link below has an extensive description and several references (provided by me). After the deadline (November 28th 2014), I will be picking my favourite of the submissions, and its author will be the one providing the character for NEXT sketch round. That's why it's called a paper chain!

I am, of course, hoping to see many submissions :XD: All the info you might need is to be found in the link below:

Just stopped here to tell you what I wanted at least for a year now: I absolutely in love with your comic and your characters! I usually follow Flaky Pastry on the website I barely come to your dA page but I guess I should change my mind. :D Your gallery is full of awesomeness! ^^
Anyway Flaky Pastry never fails to brighten my day even in my darkest times so thank you for this. :) Keep up this amazing work!
Have a nice day!

How do yo keep track of all the bubble colors while keeping each one unique? I'm doing something similar in my own comic and am finding it daunting to keep track of for readers.

Good question! Let me see if I can come up with things to say...

Well, first of all, bubble colours don't work alone. You still have to link the bubble to the character with a tail. Readers shouldn't have to remember what colour bubble each character uses. You can cheat sometimes, preferably if the colours are linked to characters elsewhere in the same page, if they're frequently-seen characters, or if you don't want people to know who's speaking anyway.

Second, choose colours that you naturally associate with the character. Green for Nitrine, for example. Also making different characters' colours as different as possible is good, especially for characters that are often together. If you need even more variation, you can sometimes alter the colour of the text as well as the bubbles. I find that to be an annoying extra step, so my main characters all have default black text ^^;

Third, to keep track of colours myself, what I usually do... .... is open an old comic file and colour-pick the bubbles I need :D But I do that for all colours.

Hope that helps!

Love your comic strip. I stop by almost daily. I've noticed you are posting more often recently. Followed the link in the posts there to your pages.

Thank you for your time and imagination.

Just curious. I got nothing but scripts when I went to your comic. On refresh as well. Am I the only one or is something up...?
